The Gary Moser Memorial Fund for Africa (Gary's Fund) was established in 2004 with generous donations from family, friends and co-workers. It was created to honor Gary and his passionate professional and personal commitment to development work in Africa.
The mission of Gary's Fund is to provide the funding for the construction and/or rehabilitation of small schools, teacher training, and other small scale development projects in under served communities in Africa. It is our goal to help improve the quality of life and increase opportunities for future success for some of our world's most vulnerable people.
We are focused on providing support to pre-school and kindergarten programs. When the youngest children in impoverished communities have access to a safe and healthy educational environment and are instructed by trained teachers the entire community benefits immeasurably.
Gary's Fund provided significant nutritional support to our schools in Kenya in 2021 and will do so in South Africa for the coming year. Additional ancillary support was funded during this difficult time. Please see details on the Project Pages.
Ncedulunthu Educare continues to thrive despite the impacts of COVID and the tragic and unexpected death of its founder and principal. Her daughter has stepped into the position, is receiving training and working hard. Last year, Gary's Fund recently provided funding for this new principal and one teacher to receive a one-year intensive training course and also funded facility improvements and the purchase of other resources. (Training started late due to COVID).
Masizakhe Pre-School's students and teachers are delighted with the completion of our two-classroom project in 2018. We recently funded teacher training for one teacher and the purchase of new educational materials.
In 2007 this school was our first project, beginning as a two-classroom pre-school for 40-45 children. Today Nkasioki School has grown into a full primary school. Normally 211 students attend with 8 teachers, 7 classes and two kinder-garten classes. During the current drought attendance has dropped as the older boys had to move the community's animals to other, wetter locations.
The three classroom Sisit Early Childhood Development Centre was completed in 2020 with funds provided by Gary's Fund. With an enrollment of 84 students and 3 teachers this pre-school kindergarten is off to a great start despite COVID challenges.
Aboso Benso Primary D/A currently has 4 teachers and about 70 Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 students. In 2019 year we provided funding to plaster and paint the school building which was completed promptly. Also on site is a primary school built in the 1940's and a nursery school constructed after our project. Our kindergarten has been registered as a public school along with the primary school on site.
